Maine Apple Sunday Too Early

Maine Apple Sunday is this weekend, but some growers say it's just too early in the harvest season.
“Most of the apples people want aren’t ready until mid-September or after,” said Ann Boucher of Gile's Family Farm in Alfred. “For us, it will be business as usual. We’re not doing anything special.”

“Macs aren’t ready until the 15th, and Cortlands not until the 20th. It should be pushed up,” said Aaron Libby of Libby & Son U-Picks in Limington.

“Maine Apple Sunday is just a power struggle within the Pomological Society,” said Earl Bunting of Dole Orchards in Limington. [Link]
