The Barns of Mount Desert Island

Seven historic barns on Mount Desert Island will be open to the public this Saturday, thanks to the MDI Historical Society.
Although there are now three organic farms on MDI, including a dairy farm, there is little demand for the large aging barns that still grace our rural landscape.

To honor their historical importance and raise interest in preserving these impressive structure, the Mount Desert Island Historical Society is offering “Barns of Yesterday,” a guided tour of seven historic barns in Somesville and Bar Harbor on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 10 to 4 p.m.

The tour includes the Pooler Barn on Route 3, the famous Stone Barn on the Crooked Road, the Peterson Barn on Norway Drive, the Higgins and Richardson barns on Oak Hill Road, the Parker Farm just outside of Somesville and the McCue Barn on the Beech Hill Road. [Link]
