An Authentic Piece of Maine

Way Out Auctions found someone selling "Real MOOSE POOP doo doo nugget earrings" on eBay. And, yes, the raw material came from a Maine moose.

Maine Line Products in Locke Mills started marketing "Moose Drop Jewelry" in 1993 — earrings, necklaces, tie tacks, and key chains. Naturalist and licensed Maine Guide Christopher Lewey collected the material — which in winter is almost entirely wood — lacquered it, and fashioned the finished products. A December 1993 article on the jewelry reported that Lewey would cross over into Maine from his home in Carroll County, New Hampshire, to gather the material, so that "the jewelry's Maine origin will have the ring of authenticity."

Maine Line is also home to the Maine Woodsman's Weatherstick, crafted by Steve Wight of Newry, and indispensable to those without The Weather Channel.
