Referendum Results

Returns show that Maine indeed won't discriminate against gays and lesbians. Question 1 has been defeated by a comfortable margin: 56% to 44% at this hour.

All five bond issues appear to be passing, with only Question 6—a bond to support Maine's state colleges—still up in the air.

And Maine is voting in large numbers to support its working waterfronts. Question 7 is carrying by 72% to 28% at last check.

Ogunquit has voted to ban chain restaurants by a vote of 506 to 207.

Scarborough will not be borrowing $1.2 million to build a community senior center, but Kennebunkport will spend $16,000 to fund trolley service in Lower Village for the next two years.

See the Bangor Daily News website for updated results.
