New Scenic Railroad Planned

The Downeast Rail Heritage Preservation Trust is hoping to open a rail line between Ellsworth and Green Lake in Dedham as early as 2007.

The twelve-mile portion of the Calais Branch line would be used for daily excursions in vintage passenger and dining cars.
As currently envisioned, the seasonal railroad would make three 24-mile round trips daily between Ellsworth and Green Lake from Memorial Day through the weekend following Columbus Day. Two trips would be 90-minute daytime excursions, followed by a two-hour evening dinner run. [Link]
A 45-ton GE locomotive — now located in Florida — has already been donated to the project.

Mmm... trains!!! Ever since I traveled in the UK on trains, I have been wishing there were more to ride on in the US, especially in our area. Perhaps someday they'll even be affordable...?

There's this terribly wonderful feeling that one is living in an Agatha Christie book when one finds oneself aboard train or large boat.
