Where There's a Will, There's a Probate Record

News that Waldo and Oneita Wilde will be copying Penobscot County probate records is music to the ears of genealogists.

Probate records—which include wills, administrations of estates, and guardianships—are among the most valuable and least accessible records used by family-history researchers. Records formerly available only at county courthouses, or on microfilm through the Family History Library system, will be available in years to come on DVD and the Internet.

Transcriptions of Maine Wills, 1640-1760, are now online, as well as abstracts of some early Androscoggin and Oxford County probate records.
