Maine Arts Commission: Thanks, but No Tanks

KeySpan Energy Tank, Dorchester, Mass.A plan is afoot to decorate the prominent fuel tanks one sees when driving through South Portland [satellite image].
The project is meant to attract creative people to Greater Portland and bring together art and industry. The tanks could serve as a symbol of how the region embraces new ideas. They could also become a point of interest for art lovers and others and create a project that excites people, organizers said. [Link]
Tank owner Sprague Energy Corp. supports the project, but a representative of the Maine Arts Commission calls painting the tanks "a stale idea," it having already be done in Dorchester, Mass., and elsewhere.
