Grand Projectionist Mourned

Skip Baker, chief projectionist at Ellsworth's Grand Auditorium, died Sunday. Baker had been a fixture at The Grand since its reopening in 1975.
Helen Meyer, a longtime Grand board member, said, “I realized how much he considered The Grand his home when I went to the projection room one day. The door of the roof was open. Skip was on the roof hanging his laundry behind the marquee.” [Link]
The Grand was first opened in 1938, and since its rebirth has become a popular venue for screening independent, foreign, and little-known films.
