Canton Moving Up in the World

The town of Canton, situated at a bend in the Androscoggin River, has been afflicted with floods in 1936, 1957, 1987 and December of 2003. Now the townsfolk are considering moving their village to higher ground.

Town leaders are thinking of using the $3 million in competitive grant funds received last August from the federal government to move the municipal buildings and some homes to a hill overlooking Route 108 and Main Street.
