Baseball's First Indian

Those who missed the Louis Sockalexis exhibition at the Abbe Museum in Bar Harbor last spring will get another chance. "Baseball's First Indian—Louis Sockalexis" will be on display through the end of the year.

Sockalexis, from Old Town, made a big splash during his brief stint with the Cleveland Spiders. The team was allegedly renamed the "Indians" in his honor, though the Cleveland organization denies this.

Ed Rice of Orono—author of the well-received Baseball's First Indian, Louis Sockalexis: Penobscot Legend, Cleveland Indian—played a part in organizing the Bar Harbor exhibit.
