Maine's Undercover Bridges

The Maine covered bridge is an endangered species. Once numbering 120, intact spans have dwindled to just nine. Most of the surviving bridges are clustered in the western part of the state, five in Oxford County alone (the Maine Department of Transportation website has information on their locations and conditions).

In 2003, a volume in the Images of America series was released devoted to Maine's Covered Bridges. Some not-so-historic specimens are included in the Maine gallery at Round Barns & Covered Bridges.
