The Magic Lantern Snuffed Out

The Magic Lantern Movie Theater in Bridgton will be screening its final films this weekend. The theater was built in 1929, and was chosen to host the premiere of Stephen King's The Shining in 1980. A new Magic Lantern will be built nearby. The owners will be selling parts of the old theater as memorabilia.

Curiously, the Magic Lantern is owned by Down East, Inc.—a Bridgton company which makes stop-check valves for the U.S. Navy.
