Seven Generations of Firefighters
Members of the Pullen family have been firefighters in Oakland ever since Grandville D. Pullen helped found the department in 1880—back when the town was called "West Waterville."
In March, Pullen's descendant, Charles, retires after 45 years with the department, serving as chief for the last 25 years. Charles followed his father, Ed, into the fire department; Ed Pullen served the department as chief for 25 years.
Not to worry. Those who wouldn't recognize the Oakland Fire Department without a member of the Pullen family will be pleased to know that Charles' son, Chuck, will still serve the department. [Link]
