Mike Krepner of Waldoboro is the founder of Native Trails, and works to recover pre-mechanized travel routes.
A Master Maine Guide, Krepner and fellow paddlers Ron Canter and Randy Mardres recently charted a network of ancient waterways, stretching from Old Forge on the Fulton Lakes in New York to Fort Kent on the St. John River in Northern Maine, waterways that once carried native peoples and later explorers.Krepner had earlier reconstructed the Eastern Maine Canoe Trail, a 130-mile-long Algonquin route between Vanceboro to Passadumkeag.
The 740-mile Northern Forest Canoe Trail, winds through New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and part of Quebec. It was officially dedicated in each state in June this year. [Link]
