On the Trail of Bill Cohen

A new exhibition opened Tuesday in Bethel titled "Cohen, Congress, and Controversy: Rediscovering Civics in the Archives." For the next year, it will be hosted at venues along the route of Bill Cohen's famous 1972 campaign walk across Maine.
A Republican, he started his campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives that year at the New Hampshire border in Gilead, and walked through Rumford, Wilton, Lewiston, Skowhegan, Bangor, Millinocket, Houlton, Caribou and Fort Kent.

The exhibition features examples of the William S. Cohen Papers, which Cohen donated in 1998 to the University of Maine.

Cohen’s career in elected office spanned almost 30 years. A native of Bangor, he was educated at Bowdoin College and Boston University. [Link]
