University Bell Finally Found

The bell used to awaken University of Maine students each morning from 1894 to 1943 was somehow misplaced, until found recently by Associate Dean Chet Rock.
Rock's quest to find the missing bell ended in March when he found a picture of the bell being hoisted to a cupola on the library rooftop in an old UM yearbook.

"It's been on campus over 100 years, and it's been out of sight for at least half that time," Rock said. [Link]
The bell—cast in 1891 and installed in Wingate Hall three years later—has been removed from the roof of Fogler Library, and will be displayed in a proposed 38-foot tower to be erected on the campus.
