Boon Island Declares Independence, Plans Casino
I missed this April 1 release from the American Lighthouse Foundation, outlining plans for a casino in the breakaway republic of Boon Island, which lies off the coast of Kittery.
[I]t seems that the casino’s rules will only allow winnings to be paid out in “Boon Island Boonies,” the official currency of the island. Reminding one of the history lesson of those who held Confederate currency when the Civil War ended, trying to exchange the Boonies for U. S. Dollars could be a problem since the Boonies are legal tender only to those individuals and business who are willing to accept them and to date, we haven’t found any. [Link]
