Stagecoach Maine

David Woods has restored a Concord stagecoach that once "served routes between Eastport & Pembroke, Bangor & Calais & Machias, Bangor & Bucksport & Castine, Bucksport & Belfast and Bangor & Gardiner." Now he's collecting items related to the history of Concord coaches in Maine.
“I have uncovered stories of tragedy and romance, drama and comedy,” says Wood. “With each connection I make, more pathways are opened to other records.” Woods' collection has grown to include Maine directories, stereo-views, probate records, Civil War hotel registers, photographs, family histories, US Mail contracts, Maine State Business Directories, postcards, letters and artifacts connected with the stagecoach owners, passengers and their times. Woods displayed his treasure at the Genealogy & Family Heritage Jamboree in St. George, Utah, last month (see Dick Eastman's description and photographs). Closer to home, an unrestored coach that once plied the roads of Southern Maine may be seen at the Owls Head Transportation Museum.
