Writers of Maine

It's a shame that the Writers of Maine website has been abandoned. It was an outgrowth of the Maine Studies distance-learning program at UMaine, but seems to fallen by the wayside.

The website persists, with enough content to show us what might have been. Essays by Sandy Phippen and George H. Lewis distinguish the real Maine from the Maine of myth and shoddy literature. Jennifer Craig Pixley shows how Ruth Moore fought the "regionalist" label, and Judy Hakola highlights some Ethnic Voices in Maine Literature, including one of my personal favorites, Rebecca Cummings of Paris.
