Maine Bird Alerts

Michelle at Strange Maine wrote recently about a white-tailed tropicbird (Phaethon lepturus catesbyi) blown to East Winn by The Great New England Hurricane of 1938.

Mainebirding.net has a searchable Maine Bird Alert database with info from 2005-2006. No white-tailed tropicbirds, but there was a red-billed tropicbird photographed on Machias Seal Island last summer. There was also a report of an American white pelican in Falmouth last June. You may also want to check out the Wild Bird Center of Yarmouth's list of South Coastal Maine Rare Bird Alerts.
