The Art of Tying Flies

Selene Dumaine of Readfield is featured in today's Maine Sunday Telegram. She is an angler, fly tyer, and Registered Maine Guide, and is now selling custom-built fly rods on her Brook Song Angling website.
At the sight of her twirling her wrists and small, hand-held devices, she could easily be mistaken for a quilter.

Dumaine is more of a ghost. And most every day for at least an hour, she takes a journey back 80 years to a house by Upper Dam in Rangeley, where Carrie Stevens tied the mythical Gray Ghost streamer fly in her methodical, purposeful way.

Dumaine, in a similar fashion, in virtually the exact same method, lifts and twirls the fishing line over her Green Beauty to tie together its various parts, just as Stevens did back in 1924. [Link]
