WWII Shipyard Workers Sought for Interviews

The Portland Harbor Museum and WMPG-FM are teaming up to produce a radio program and traveling exhibit about the Liberty Ships constructed in South Portland during World War II.

Between 1941 and 1945, local shipyards produced 236 Liberty Ships — simple square-hulled ships more practical than attractive, and crucial to the war effort. About 30,000 Mainers built or sailed on them during the war.
The radio program will include interviews of former shipyard workers, many of which will be conducted by Cape Elizabeth High School students. Stephanie Philbrick of WMPG-FM will serve as producer of the series. The interviews will be preserved at the museum where they will complement the museum’s existing collection of shipyard documents and artifacts. [Link]
