The Downeast Gateway Bridge

The new span over the Penobscot River has been named the Downeast Gateway Bridge. A group of state legislators announced the name this afternoon at a scenic lookout near the bridge in Prospect.

Bucksport stands to gain considerable commerce from the bridge, which will include an observation tower offering expansive 360-degree views. The tower is likely to be a tourist attraction that will draw people into nearby Bucksport for services.

“We also support naming the west tower the Penobscot Observatory Tower,” said [State Sen. Richard] Rosen. [Link]
