Hanukkah Rocks, Even in Maine

The Leevees are filling a giant niche with their new CD Hanukkah Rocks. In fact, the band — led by Portland resident Adam Gardner and fellow vocalist David Schneider — was founded for the express purpose of writing and recording Hanukkah songs.
"We were talking about how we're both Jewish musicians and how there are tons of Jewish musicians but no good Chanukah songs out there," Gardner says. "We immediately grabbed a pair of guitars and wrote the first two songs on the record, 'Latke Clan' and 'Applesauce Vs. Sour Cream,' in like that first hour." [Link]
The Leevees opened for the Barenaked Ladies at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Dec. 1, playing to a crowd described in the band's road diary as "warm as a fresh baked knish." Their song "Latke Clan" was featured on the Dec. 11 episode of Grey's Anatomy.
