Mainers in Prime Time

It might surprise you to learn how many Maine natives are appearing on television this fall:
  • Anna Belknap, born and raised in Damariscotta, appears in CSI: NY as investigator Lindsay Hamilton.
  • John Cariani, born in Presque Isle, author of the play Almost, Maine, has a recurring role as CSU Technician Julian Beck on Law & Order.
  • Patrick DempseyPatrick Dempsey stars in Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Derek Sheperd. He was born in Lewiston, lived in Buckfield, attended St. Dom's in Lewiston, and now has a farm in Harpswell. (Portland Magazine published an interview a few years ago. He was on the cover last May.)
  • David E. Kelley, born in Waterville, isn't an actor, but created Boston Legal, as well as past series Doogie Howser, M.D., Picket Fences, Chicago Hope, The Practice, Ally McBeal, and Boston Public.
  • Linda Lavin, born in Portland, occasionally shows up in The O.C. as Sophie 'Nana' Cohen.
  • Cynthia McFaddenCynthia McFadden, born in Lewiston and a Bowdoin College alumna, is senior legal correspondent for ABC News, and became co-anchor of Primetime a year ago.
  • Rachel Nichols (star of last summer's ill-fated FOX series The Inside), born in Augusta, now appears in Alias as Rachel Gibson. (She is interviewed in the Bangor Daily News of Oct. 1.)
  • John O'Hurley, born in Kittery, won the Dancing With The Stars dance-off last Thursday. (Read a recent interview from Portland Magazine.)
